Caricature invitations work because they are specific. A formal invitation announces a wedding; a caricature invitation announces your wedding — the spectacles, the height difference, the fact that one of you is always late, the dog who will be in every photograph anyway.

They are the most personal thing we make, and also the most demanding, because the illustration is drawn from nothing before any animation starts.

What makes a caricature invitation land

  1. Likeness over accuracy. A caricature does not need to be a portrait. It needs the two or three features people identify you by, exaggerated just enough to be affectionate.
  2. One story, not five jokes. The strongest ones follow a single thread — how you met, or a shared obsession — rather than stacking unrelated gags.
  3. The details still readable. It is an invitation first. Names, dates and venue must be as legible as in any formal design, which means the illustration has to leave room for them.
  4. Knowing when to stop. Twenty seconds of good caricature beats sixty seconds that runs out of ideas at thirty.

What we need from you

  • Clear photographs of both faces — well lit, looking at the camera. Original files, not WhatsApp forwards.
  • The features that matter. Spectacles, beard, curly hair, a particular outfit you want them wearing. Tell us; we will not guess what you consider essential.
  • Your story in three sentences. How you met, one thing you do together, one thing your friends tease you about.
  • Anyone else to include. Siblings, parents, pets — each extra character is extra illustration, so tell us early.

Timeline, said plainly

Caricature work takes longer than our usual 48-hour first draft, because nothing can be animated until the characters are drawn and approved. If your wedding is very close, we will tell you honestly that a typographic direction is the safer choice rather than rush illustration and give you something weak.

Where a caricature invitation fits

It is worth thinking about audience before choosing this route. Caricature invitations are a natural fit for the sangeet, the engagement, a mehendi, or a friends-only announcement — occasions where the tone is meant to be light.

For the main vivah invitation, some families love it and some find it too informal for the event they are hosting. A common and sensible split: a caricature invitation for the celebratory functions, and traditional elegance or royal heritage for the wedding itself, both sharing one palette so the set still reads as one wedding.

Caricature versus photo-based invitations

If you have a good pre-wedding shoot, a photo-led invitation may achieve the same warmth with less time and cost — a strong photograph with elegant type over it is hard to beat. Caricature earns its place when there is a story to tell that photographs cannot carry, or when you want the invitation to be funny rather than beautiful.

We will tell you which we think suits your brief. If the honest answer is that a typographic invitation would serve you better, that is what we will recommend.

Pricing

Caricature invitations sit at the upper end of our range, because custom illustration is the most time-consuming thing we do and every additional character adds to it. The price guide explains what moves the number; for an actual figure, send us the brief.

Caricature invites, answered

What is a caricature wedding invitation?

An invitation built around illustrated cartoon versions of the couple, usually with a light storyline — how you met, your hobbies, the pet, the running family joke. It is playful rather than formal.

It is especially popular with younger guest lists and for sangeet or engagement invitations, where the tone is meant to be fun.

Do you need our photos to draw the caricatures?

Yes — clear, well-lit photographs of both faces, ideally looking straight at the camera. One good photo each is enough; more angles help if you want a strong likeness.

Tell us the details that matter to you: spectacles, a beard, a particular saree, the dog. Those are what make people recognise you instantly.

How long does caricature work take?

Longer than typographic invitations, because the illustration is drawn from scratch before any animation begins. Expect the first draft to take longer than our usual 48 hours, and we will tell you the realistic date when we quote.

If your timeline is tight, a typographic direction is the safer choice and we will say so.

Is a caricature invitation suitable for elders?

Sometimes, sometimes not — and it is worth thinking about honestly. Many families love it; in others it reads as insufficiently respectful for the main wedding invitation.

A common solution is to use the caricature invitation for the sangeet, engagement or a friends-only announcement, and a formal direction for the main vivah invitation. Both share your palette so the set still feels coherent.
